Why Holiday Cooking is So Special
Alright, let’s start with a little story time. Growing up, the holidays were always a magical time for me. The aroma of freshly baked cookies, the laughter echoing through the house, and the joy of sharing meals with loved ones there’s nothing quite like it. Food has this amazing power to bring people together, don’t you think? It’s like every bite you take is filled with love, memories, and a sprinkle of holiday magic.
Classic Roast Turkey with a Twist
Now, no holiday feast is complete without a stunning centerpiece, and what’s better than a good ol’ roast turkey? But we’re not doing just any roast turkey we’re adding a little twist to make it unforgettable.
Ingredients:
- 1 whole turkey (about 12 pounds)
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 lemon, zested and juiced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup white wine (optional, but highly recommended!)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 325F (165C). Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
- In a bowl, mix the butter, rosemary, thyme, lemon zest, lemon juice, and garlic. Season with salt and pepper.
- Gently lift the skin over the turkey breast and rub the butter mixture underneath. Rub any remaining butter on the outside of the turkey.
- Place the turkey on a rack in a roasting pan. Pour the chicken broth and white wine into the pan.
- Roast the turkey for about 3 to 4 hours, basting every 30 minutes with the pan juices. The turkey is done when the internal temperature reaches 165F (74C).
- Let the turkey rest for at least 20 minutes before carving. This helps the juices redistribute, making the meat super juicy.
And there you have it a roast turkey that’s gonna make your guests go “Wow!” Now, let’s move on to some side dishes.
